The people of Jema Nante in the Kintampo South District in the Brong Ahafo Region of Ghana have been provided with modern sanitary facilities by the Community Livelihoods Support Organization (COLISO GHANA), a Non-Governmental Organization. The facilities consisting of two separate twelve-seater
water closets each have been commissioned at a colourful ceremony at Nante and handed over to the committee members
The project which forms part of the collaboration between the Authorities of the City of Antwerp and the Ghanaian Community in Belgium through their umbrella organisation Ghana Council Belgium, was financed by the Flemish Government, Flemish Partnership for Water Development,
TMVW-Waterlink, City of Antwerp, Fuji Oil, Ghana Council Belgium and facilitated by FOS Belgium. Â Four different communities in four regions; Akim Kotokuom - Eastern Region, Tano Odumase - Ashanti Region, Wassa Saa - Western Region and Nante - Brong Ahafo Region in Ghana are benefitting from Diaspora support.Â
The queen mother of Nante who resides in Belgium played an active role to facilitate the project for Brong Ahafo region of which the people of Nante are the fortunate beneficiaries "
At the commissioning, Mr. Eric Azah, Human Resource Manager for the Assembly, speaking on behalf of the District Chief Executive (DCE), expressed his sincere gratitude to the financiers for their support. He also commended COLISO for their timely implementation of the project
In his contribution, the Environmental Health Officer of the Assembly, Mr Emmanuel Kankam who spoke extensively on the need to keep the environment clean, advised the people to patronize the facilities instead of indulging in open defecation so as to avoid outbreak of diseases such as cholera
In a short speech, Nana Asamoah Baffoe II, chief of Nante commented that the provision of the two facilities was a dream come true, adding that they had suffered for a long time without those facilities. He therefore thanked COLISO for their kind gesture
In an address, the Communications Officer at COLISO Mr Yaw Ofosu-Baah extolled the people of Nante for contributing their quota in labour, in the provision of wood, boards and two electric poles and meters. He also thanked the assembly for providing six (6) trips of stone, and the Member of Parliament, Hon. Yaw Effah Baafi for providing twelve (12) trips of sand
Earlier, COLISO’s Administrative and Finance Officer, Mr Emmanuel Bonney had explained to the committee members the modalities for the management of the facilities
Present at the ceremony included the Assemblyman for Nante and students from the College of Health at Kintampo, Koen Mutton, Aline Van Eysendyck and Laura Van Schetsen, all students from Karel De Grote University in Belgium
